GRIFFIN AUDIO G1
June 2005—Priced at $32,000/pair, the Griffin G1 has two 8-inch magnesium cone drivers for mids, a Stage Accompany SA8535 ribbon tweeter on highs and an 18-inch long-throw woofer. The driver crossovers are all passive, with full-band EQ system handled by Class-A analog filters in the accompanying system controller. Frequency response is rated at 20 to 20k Hz (±2 dB), and the power rating is 1,600W on music signals. The mid and tweeter cabinet have a beveled front baffle to minimize diffraction.
GRIFFIN AUDIO G2A
June 2005—Griffin's G2A active mid-field studio monitor ($6,400/pair) employs dual 8.6-inch magnesium-cone woofers with a planar magnetic ribbon tweeter. Amplification is provided by ICEpower
GRIFFIN AUDIO G2 SURROUND MONITORING SYSTEM
July 2004—Norway's Griffin Audio Design offers the Griffin 2 Surround Monitoring System ($11,750), featuring five Griffin 2 loudspeakers and one Griffin 2 subwoofer. The passive system showcases dual 8.5-inch magnesium cone woofers and a ribbon tweeter in each G2 loudspeaker, and is capable of delivering details from ultrasoft to 115 dB SPL at three feet. Designed to be a perfect match for high-resolution SACD and DVD-A work, the tweeter is placed in a symmetrical magnetic field and comes with a simple passive filter in between it and the two midranges. The G2's strongly braced 3/4-inch fiberboard cabinets are extremely rigid and are compact enough for use in smaller facilities. The G2 has a frequency response of 40 to 25k Hz, ±1.5 dB and handles 200 to 500W at 4 ohms. According to Manzella, a fully active G2 surround system will be available by mid-summer.
GRIFFIN AUDIO G2
December 2003—Griffin Audio's Griffin 2 is a two-way system that features two 8.66-inch LF drivers and a ribbon HF driver. The published frequency response is 40 to 25k Hz (±1.5 dB). The design is similar to the landmark Griffin monitor, and features a beveled cabinet that solves reflection issues normally associated with more traditional enclosure designs.
GRIFFIN AUDIO SURROUND PACKAGES
December 2001—Griffin Audio Design's top surround system includes five loudspeakers, three bass-management controllers and a pair of subs, all for a total cost of $74,750 (amplification not included). This system includes five Griffin Mastering Loudspeakers ($12,450 each, and available in both freestanding or in-wall models), two Griffin .1 subs ($6,250 each) and the Griffin ACU (Active Controller Unit). The Griffin Mastering Loudspeaker is a three-way active/passive design capable of providing more than 120dB dynamic range and a flat response from 22 Hz to over 20k Hz. The two Griffin .1 subs incorporate the same RCF L18P300 18-inch woofer as in the Mastering Loudspeaker and are used in tandem. Each Griffin ACU contains the crossover from the bass system to the passive mid/tweeter system, as well as tilt and level control for all bands.
