GENELEC SURROUND PACKAGES
December 2001—Genelec offers a wide range of monitors and subwoofers for customized high-end surround monitoring solutions. For example, the Genelec system that was recently installed at Right Track Studios includes five Genelec 1035B main control room monitor systems and four Genelec 1094A subwoofers. Such a system costs in the neighborhood of $123,000, shipping included. Each 1035B has two 15-inch woofers with a pair of 1,100W amps, two Genelec 5-inch mids, each with its own 250W amp, and a single 2-inch HF compression driver driven by its own 350W amp. Designed for flush-mounting, each 1035B offers a frequency response of 29 to 22k Hz (-3 dB) and a peak SPL capability of 136 dB SPL per pair (at 2 meters). Two 5-inch, high-sensitivity, direct-radiating cone drivers are loaded with Genelec's Directivity Control Waveguide, which is user-adjustable and reportedly improves stereo imaging, increases driver efficiency and reduces distortion and cabinet edge diffraction. At Right Track, four Genelec 1094A subwoofers, each with a single 15-inch driver and 400W amp, provide LF energy down to and below 25 Hz. The 1094A sub features a front-loaded driver for improved passband efficiency and stop-band rejection.
GENELEC S30D
June 2000--Genelec’s S30D Digital Monitoring System has a frequency response of 35 to 50k Hz and is available in vertical and horizontal versions. The S30D’s 96kHz/24-bit digital interface accepts the AES/EBU format (or S/PDIF with an impedance adapter) and supports input word lengths of 16 to 24 bits. The monitor also provides analog and digital-through connectors. The S30D has an 8-inch woofer, a 3.5-inch midrange cone driver and a ribbon tweeter. The tri-amplified (120W, 120W, 120W) system provides electronic crossover and protection circuitry. The S30D features built-in bass, mid and treble level controls; bass roll-offand bass tilt controls. MSRP: $2,850 each.
GENELEC 1029A SURROUND SYSTEMS
March 1999—Genelec's smallest surround system ($4,298) uses five 1029A speakers for left front, right front, center, left rear and right rear. Two 1091A subwoofers handle deep bass chores for the whole system; there is no support for the LFE channel with this configuration. A step-up system uses five 1029A speakers, a 1091A sub and a redesigned 1092A subwoofer (dual 8-inch drivers). The 1092A handles deep bass from the left-front, right-front and center speakers, as well as the dedicated LFE matrix output. A single 1091A subwoofer reproduces the bottom octaves for the left-rear and right-rear 1029A pair. This configuration, which will handle more strenuous monitoring chores in larger rooms, has a list price of $5,749.
