FOSTEX NX-6A
June 2005—The Fostex (www.fostex.com) NX-6A ($849 each) near-field studio monitor is a two-way active design with a 6.5-inch woofer and a 20mm dome tweeter. The rigid frame woofer uses the company's Hyper-Radial diaphragm cone with UDR (Up/Down Roll) tangential edge technology to eliminate unwanted resonance. The magnesium dome is designed to eliminate harshness while providing fast transient response, and is recessed to the woofer for a focused sound image. Inside the mag-shielded enclosure, 60W and 40W amps provide power.

FOSTEX PMO.5 MONITOR
April 2003—Fostex announces the PMO.5, a compact, self-powered studio monitor system featuring a 5-inch woofer and 0.75-inch soft-dome tweeter in a front-ported cabinet. Weighing 14.3 pounds and measuring 11x7.13x10.25 inches (HxWxD), the PMO.5 offers a frequency response of 50-20k Hz, ±2 dB, and a maximum short-term SPL of 105 dB. MSRP: $349/pair.

FOSTEX PM-1
November 2002—The Fostex PM-1 is a bi-amped powered monitor system, offering 50 to 20k Hz response (±2 dB) and a $499 retail. Onboard 75- and 45W amps drive the 6.5-inch aromatic, polyamide woofer, and 1-inch, low-mass dome tweeter to peak SPLs of 118 dB. Dimensions are 15x8.5x11.25 inches; weight is 23 pounds.

FOSTEX NF-1A
June 2000—This bi-amped system comprises dual 60W amps, an internal baffle configuration that uses HP sound reflectors to extinguish standing waves and two tuned 2-inch cylindrical ports for increased bass response. The NF-1A’s 21mm-thick MDF (medium-density fiber) material for the main enclosure widens to 33 mm where the drivers are mounted. The NF-1A employs a push-pull damper in the speaker’s woofer assembly, and the 6.5-inch woofer is coupled with a UDR tangential diaphragm edge that eliminates unwanted anti-resonance. The high-frequency UFLC tweeter uses a low-loss 6dB crossover. MSRP: $899 each. TO READ THE REVIEW, CLICK HERE.
