SPL ELECTRONICS MIXDREAM XP
October 2005—After introducing the MixDream analog summing and insert box last year, SPL (www.spl-usa.com) launches the MixDream XP this year as a straight 16x2 summing box. Entirely discrete signal paths run on 60V rails in Class-A mode, reaching a dynamic range up to 124 dB. The MixDream XP is ideally suited as a pure, active DAW summing extension or to expand the MixDream with 16 further channels.

SPL DMC
June 2005—SPL's DMC dual-channel mastering console is a compact mastering mixer with the same superhigh-performance, 120-volt rails as its acclaimed MMC1 and MMC2 cousins, but in a stereo version.

SPL MMC2 MULTICHANNEL MASTERING CONSOLE
November 2004—SPL's multichannel mastering consoles represent unusually powerful command centers for stereo and surround mastering applications. After last year's all-in-one solution MMC1, this year's new compact MMC2 console comes in a 19-inch/9U format and provides source connection, track assignment, speaker management and master and monitor level setting. The discrete, fully analog console is based on SPL's unique 120-volt op amps for unprecedented dynamic range, headroom, bandwidth and audio purity. Retail: $35,900.

SPL MIXDREAM
September 2004—The SPLMixDream is an active, cascadable 16x2 analog outboard summing bus offering 16 inserts with individual and overall hardware bypass relays. This two-rackspace, Class-A unit also features a stereo limiter/expander, switchable master inserts with gain and switchable Lundahl output transformers. I/O is provided on Tascam-standard DB25 connectors with the main and monitor stereo outs on XLRs. The back of the unit is also home to a ground lift, voltage selector (110/220) and a power switch. Price: $3,795.

SPL MMC1 MASTERING CONSOLE
May 2002—At Musikmesse, SPL unveiled its MMC1, a no-compromise, fully discrete analog console for stereo/5.1/6.1/7.1 mastering. Designed with DVD-A and SACD specs in mind, and priced around 64k euros (approx. $55,000 U.S.), the MMC1 is centered around two large, backlit, multichannel potentiometers for adjusting playback monitor and master output levels. A logic-controlled patchbay (with four memories) handles various routings/sequences of multichannel outboard gear for insertion into the master outputs, allowing the engineer to compare different combinations/orders of processing (compression, EQ, harmonic enhancement, etc.) instantly. All switching uses gas-filled relays, and active processing is via SPL's Supra discrete 120-volt(!) op amps with 150dB dynamic range and 34 dB of headroom. Eight large VU input meters and an RTW 10800 visual surround monitor (offering correlation, phase, surround analysis, vectorscope, RTA and 8-channel peak output metering) are standard.
