DIGIDESIGN D-SHOW PROFILE
December 2006—Digidesign's D-Show Profile offers a size-conscious alternative to the D-Show flagship console/controller in its VENUE live mixer line. D-Show Profile is compatible with all existing VENUE hardware and software, including stage and front-of-house racks for connecting to Pro Tools HD and Pro Tools LE systems via a hardware option. D-Show Profile also offers expanded show control options with the new General Purpose Interface (GPI). Its eight GPI I/Os allow D-Show Profile to send or respond to external equipment via simple switch closures for automation cues, etc. Because D-Show and D-Show Profile operate on the same D-Show control software and operating system, users won't have to learn new software or rebuild their console settings from scratch when moving between VENUE mixing consoles.
DIGIDESIGN D-SHOW PROFILE
November 2006—Digidesign’s D-Show Profile is a size-conscious alternative to the D-Show flagship console of the VENUE line. Intended for small to medium installs, D-Show Profile is compatible with all existing VENUE hardware and software, including existing stage and front-of-house racks for connecting to Pro Tools HD and LE systems via a hardware option. Waves Live Bundle provides 27 popular plug-ins for Digidesign’s D-Show/VENUE console, including the L2 Ultramaximizer, C4 MultiBand and MaxxBass—all optimized for D-Show/D-Show Profile consoles.
DIGIDESIGN VENUE UPGRADES
October 2006—New are Digital Stage Input (DSI) and Digital Stage Output (DSO) card options for VENUE. A single DSI provides eight channels of digital input for the VENUE Stage Rack, either through four AES/EBU pairs or a single ADAT interface. One DSO card offers eight AES/EBU output channels and ADAT Lightpipe, with both active at all times for simplified simultaneous “splits” to recording/monitoring/broadcast feeds.
DIGIDESIGN UPDATES
September 2006—Digidesign sold its 1,000th ICON family digital console controller and announced a JLCooper-designed Surround Panner option for its D-Command/Pro Tools HD systems. The $1,695 option has a touch-sensitive joystick, plus knobs and mode buttons for individual parameters. On the live side, Digidesign announces Digital Stage Input (DSI) and Digital Stage Output (DSO) card options for its VENUE live sound environment, each providing eight channels of AES/EBU or ADAT Lightpipe I/Os. And on the DSOs, the AES and ADAT outputs are active for simplified simultaneous splits to recording/monitoring/broadcast feeds. VENUE D-Show 2 software supports DSO/DSI and adds numerous other features, including snapshot enhancements, a preview mode, absolute and relative edit modes, channel strip cut/copy/paste, split fader banking and more. The company now bundles Troodon's (www.troodontechnologies.com) TrooTrace
DIGIDESIGN D-COMMAND
October 2005—The D-Command medium-format console environment work surface packs ICON-exclusive Pro Tools functionality into a medium-format console. As with the flagship large-format ICON D-Control console, D-Command uses Pro Tools|HD Accel as its DSP mix engine and Pro Tools|HD interfaces and peripherals for system I/O. It offers hands-on control over every aspect of a Pro Tools project, including recording, editing, mixing and processing—with integrated video—from a relatively small, but expandable, work surface.
DIGIDESIGN VENUE
September 2005—Based around the D-Show mixing console, Digidesign’s VENUE system features an expandable DSP mix engine. A standard VENUE includes 48 mic inputs and can run 64 input channels with 24 graphic EQs and enough DSP power for dozens of plug-ins. All channels feature a remote-controlled head amp, delay, 4-band parametric EQ with analog emulation mode and dual dynamics processors. VENUE includes D-Verb, delay, pitch and dynamic plug-ins, and supports plug-ins from other manufacturers. The Assignable Channel Section (ACS) enables adjustment of all parameters for any selected channel. Optional sidecars may be added to increase fader count.
DIGIDESIGN VENUE STAGE RACK
September 2005—VENUE’s 19-inch Stage Rack provides analog audio I/O for stage signals, accommodating up to 48 remote-controlled mic/line preamps and A/D converters. The FOH Rack contains the D-Show mix engine and furnishes audio connectivity at the mix position. Automation includes snapshot store/recall (999 scenes), MIDI program change and response to incoming footswitch events or MTC cues. VENUE can be interfaced directly to Pro Tools using Digidesign’s FWx card or TDM Record Option. A standard VENUE system is $62,995.
DIGIDESIGN D-COMMAND
July 2005—Seeking a smaller console solution than Digidesign's ICON environment? Check out the medium-format D-Command. The base unit is equipped with eight channel faders and a center section, but is expandable to 24 faders by adding a 16-channel Fader Module. Each channel strip features a touch-sensitive motorized fader, two multipurpose rotary encoders and multiple pushbuttons that provide quick access to key session parameters. Much like ICON, D-Command has dedicated EQ and dynamics editing panels and a monitor control area that uses the X-Mon interface for vital monitoring functions. For now, there is no dedicated surround panner, but the unit will work with third-party panners such as the JLCooper MCS.
