API MODEL 1608 CONSOLE
Building on the reputation of the 1604 console, API (www.apiaudio.com) has released the Model 1608, which uses the legacy 2520 circuitry and boasts the same standards as the API Vision and Legacy consoles. The desk has 16 548B inputs with 312 mic pre/line inputs and direct output; it also includes 12 550A 3-band equalizers and four 560 10-band graphic EQ modules. The center section offers 5.1 monitoring and has space for up to eight additional 500 Series modules. Other features include comprehensive VU metering, rear-connector patching, eight additional inputs designated as effects returns and moving-fader automation as a future option. A fully fitted 16-channel console starts at $49,900, with a 16-channel expander option for $39,900. TO READ THE REVIEW, CLICK HERE

API DAW MONITOR RACKS
November 2004—Essentially a mini API console in a convenient, roll-around slanted cabinet, the new DSM (Discrete Summing Mixer) workstation monitor rack is specifically designed to complement any DAW by providing professional analog summing, mixing, control room switching/monitoring, patchbay facilities and studio I/O connections. The three new API DSM products are the DSM 24, DSM 48 and DSM 72. Each includes a number of the API 7600, 7800 and 8200 modules.

API LEGACY
August 2004—API is no stranger to high performance with its emphasis on no-compromise analog circuits. Although the company's Legacy consoles are priced from $100k, a more realistic starting figure hovers around $125k. For example, a 32-channel Legacy with API's classic 550 Series 4-band EQs, 16 212L all-discrete mic preamps and patchbay lists at about $130,000. The console can be configured with its channels in a split or all-input design. Other basic features include 16 main buses, two stereo buses, six aux sends (five mono/one stereo) and a totally modular design that allows buyers to easily add preamp modules as needs grow. The Legacy also offers frames of up to 64 channels and a choice of the standard long-throw P&G faders or optional moving fader packages from Uptown (900 or 1200 Series) or Flying Faders.

API 8200A
May 2004—API Audio is shipping its 8200A summing mixer. The single-rackspace unit offers Solo and Mute functions, direct control over level, panning, a balanced insert and two aux sends on each of the eight balanced line input channels.

API VISION
October 2003—API is introducing Vision, a surround mixing and recording console, which provides 5-channel panning on each fader, two moving faders on each input, 24 main, three stereo buses and a dedicated 5.1 mix bus, along with comprehensive multiformat monitor facilities. Featuring resettable switch assignment and API's Legacy Series mic pre's, equalizers and dynamics modules, each Vision is custom-built to specification and continues the legacy of API's five-year warranty on all parts. API 8200
September 2003—The API 8200 mixer provides eight inputs, each with level control to the stereo bus, pan and two auxiliary sends per channel, all in a single-rackspace unit. The 8200 is designed to operate with one or more API 7600 Input Modules and the 7800 Master Module to create a custom, easily expandable portable console. Each channel uses API 2510 op amps, and includes a balanced input, balanced insert point, and front-panel Mute and Solo switches. Price: $1,995.

API 7600 CONSOLE STRIP
February 2001—The API 7600 one-rackspace input module from Audio Products Inc. provides all the features of a high-performance console channel strip and can also be used to add channels to an existing desk incrementally. The 7600 features the same mic pre as is currently available in the API 200 Series Legacy console module, the 212L. The unit's EQ is an exact reissue of the famed 550a, offering three bands of API EQ, but with seven frequency choices per band. The compressor is the 225L, the same compressor found in the all-discrete Legacy consoles. The 7600 is available in either a horizontal or vertical configuration, with panel legends oriented appropriately. Complete with internal power supply, the 7600 strip can form the basis of a 4- or 8-channel or even 16-channel API console or custom “sidecar” console. Price: $4,995.

API 7600
November 1999—API's $2,700 model 7600 input strip combines an API mic preamp, compressor and 550a discrete 3-band EQ in a 1U chassis. The unit can be used as an outboard processor, or multiple 7600s can be stacked to form a custom rackmount console with API's new 7800 master strip providing busing, solo logic, master controls and monitor speaker/headphones control. Yeah!
